You can get many shades of black, since there are underlying colors to any main color. Some underlying colors of black are red, green, yellow and blue. Take two different black items and place them together, you will see that one will go black/red while the other maybe black/yellow.

Black is not a color. It is the absence of all color. Therefore there cannot be "shades" of black. There are shades of gray but not black.
