Columbia University School of Journalism is the traditionally established best in NYC, but other schools have them too. New York University probably has one too. Both of these schools are very expensive. Columbian U.'s program has been the rave for yrs. The other top schools in NYC, Barnard for instance, may have one too.

Columbia University is usually considered the top J-School in the world. I'm sure that NYU has a decent program, too.

See if you can get an intern position at any of the papers in the area you're interested in. Such a position not only allows for learning on-the-job, but also counts as valuable work experience to editors.
