Should there be a gap on how much they can make and the rest of the money would go back to the community they play for? or even the state? That would really help.

Players bring in money. A player like Kobe Bryant for example gets $18 mill+ a year, but he sells out every game he plays in. The Lakers last year were the biggest draw in the NBA. Every game they played in EVERY arena sold out. Thats a lot of ticket money.
Besides that----think how many Kobe jerseys you have seen on the street. That is the Lakers logo. That is money for the NBA and the Lakers. I know in LA you can not walk down the street without seeing a #8 in purple and gold. And he is changing his jersey # this year to #24. This is going to make every Kobe fan go buy ANOTHER Kobe jersey.
A NBA team has 12-15 players they pay for a full season. With the popularity of the NBA, a team is worth $500 mill or so. The money brought in every year is in the billions, the owner rightfully keeps most-he is the owner. Then the next biggest portion of it goes to the players. ONLY 12 players. Not like baseball with 30+ player teams and football with 60+ player teams. So basketball players get paid more. Plus, one player, like Michael Jordan can instantly make a team a championship contender. Not like getting Barry Bonds. Who might win a a few more games, but does not guaruntee a top[ team.

Well, compared to teachers, bus drivers and other ordinary working stiffs, sure. They make millions for playing a game. But, look at the industry they're in and the money it generates, it's a multi billion dollar industry that has a limited number of people that have the necessary skills to draw from, thus those players can command large salaries. They get paid what that market will bear.

Why doesn't anyone ever asked if the owners are overpaid? How about the GMs? The coaches?

When we go to games or turn on the TV, we do it to see the players play. So, if the league is making a killing, the players should be making a killing, also....and they do.

you spelled PAID wrong.

NO, they arent.... they bring in the money. the owners have a better life then the players. so who should get the money. the workers are the ones on top??? should hot dogs be $ 2 and not 4, drinks not be $ 5 andn $ 1. if they lower the price, how much would the owners and players have to lower their income....

very much so, they don't seem to remember the love for the game instead they worry about endorsements and stupid crap they don't really need. i mean seriously i believe if they did a poll on how many ppl watch college basketball compared to the NBA, college would win, if not in my opinion i'd rather watch the NCAA than the NBGay(A).

The most common answer is going to be yes, but if you look at the amount of money the owner of a nba team generates....they are fairly paid when you think about that.

All professional athletes are. At least for Baseball, Hockey, Football, Basketball. IMO

yes, only because of the high market for basketball-related things. also, knowing massive amounts of people watch basketball on TV, companies will pay big bucks to advertise during a game.

It's a reward for their skill and talent.
You probably won't mind getting paid that much if
you had the same skill and talent, now would you?

If you put them next to teachers, doctors, firefighters, cops. Hell yeah! Every athlete is overpaid.

If you put basketball players next to baseball players, hell no, they're underpaid.
