Get the baby some premie onsies, and diapers. Not having to buy diapers is the best gift for new parents. For the mom, just give her a gift card for a hair-cut or manicure. She will love to be pampered, and to get out of the house for an hour or so. Offer to keep the baby while she gets treated so she won't have to find a sitter. Sometimes though all a new mom wants is a couple of hours of uninterupted sleep. Maybe you could take the baby for a couple of hours so she can sleep or just take a long shower. I hope this gives you a few ideas. I'm a fairly new mom so I know how she is feeling, and those are some things that I would enjoy.

Anything that involves getting the house clean (which she is unable to do at this point) or to get her out of the house to treat herself (such as a spa or shopping) which requires a babysitter are good gifts. Also, pick up premie diapers. I'm sure they will appreciate it. Most times when parents have premies, they haven't had time to prepare for a premie. Everything is for a 6 or 7 + pound baby.

If she is going to breastfeed, I have the perfect thing. It is called a Hooter Hider, Yep, you read correctly, a HOOTER HIDER! I LOVE mine. It sorta looks like an apron that you hang around your neck. The top part has boning in it so that it creates an opening so that you can see what is going on under the blanket but no one else does. It make nursing in public soooo easy! It was the best $40 I ever spent!!! They come in really stylish patterns. The PERFECT gift for a nursing mom.
As for a gift for her, the best thing I ever received was warm dinner! I also got a gift certificate for a house keeper to come over! I LOVED that too. You and a few friends could chip in. There is nothing like the gift of a clean house.
PS I agree with the mom that said the miricle blanket too. I have that and I am still using it 4 months later! My babe slept through the night at 9 weeks and is still doing it to this day!

I had two sisters that were born preemies, and my mom needed an extra helping hand, and always welcomed any and all help from the family.she carried the first preemie in a shoe box she was so tiny! And I remember that my aunt sewed clothing for her because nothing else fit.and the outfits were so darling!a lot of new mom's will not leave thier babies, but just spend some time a couple of days a week, helping with the chores or to give her some me time.Me time is very important for a new mom.

I would go with a nice cozy quilt that her and the baby both can cuddle up in. You can even find quilts that have a matching smaller version for the baby. I also agree with "Kelly N", the Boppy Pillows are great. You can find them at "Toys R' Us" for a really good price and they have changable covers for them in different patterns or colors. Maybe do a combo of the quilts and the boppy pillow for the baby and a pillow for her.
My best friend just had a baby and a bunch of us made her a quilt. We each got a 6in. by 6in. square to do what we wanted with ( theme: memories ). It turned out beatiful and she loved it! It was very personable and she uses it everyday to cuddle with her new little guy. (She also owns the boppy pillow and uses it everyday.)

Well if you want to buy something...the boppy pillow is really nice...this makes it easier to breast feed...the baby can lean against it in play,etc...i loved mine! A great gift that I wish someone had offered me was just a babysitter. Offer to sit for her so she can relax...even if she stays there because she doesn't want to leave them yet...go over cook her dinner, do a load of laundry and tidy up so she can enjoy the baby or get some extra rest...she would so appreciate that!

I always try to buy the mom something also. A new pretty comfy nightgown that she can wear to nurse in. some bubble bath or bath salts. My friends all got together and made several casseroles and frozen meals and put them in my freezer so I could reheat them and have something good for dinner without having to worry about cooking. It was great!! I am sure whatever you come up with it will be so appreciated.

My son was very small when he was born too. I got lots of clothes from ppl but they were all way too big. I had to go out and buy clothes for him for the first 4 months until he fit into the other clothes. I would have loved it if they would have bought him alot of preemie clothes instead. I was tired and didnt feel like worrying about something as simple as clothes.
