We have tons of black widow spiders around. The main question is how do I tell how a male black widow spider looks?

I've found a couple spiders that are smaller, but seem to have the same body style as the female, but they look brown, and I'm way to grossed out to see if it has any hour-glass shape on them...how can I tell how a male looks?

This is very easy to fix... research the Internet! you can find a picture of what one looks like but in the mean time...a male Black Widow spider has the same conformation and leg structure but is about a third of the size of his mate, he is light brown with white specks which is easily noticed on his legs. Although ALL spiders are venomous, the male widow doesn't pack the punch like the female and most often if not always, he is eaten by his mate after mating. The best time to look for Black Widows is at night with a flash light and a can of bug spray! they're nocturnal. hope this helps.

Very Easily, Male Black Widows Don't Even Look Like Black Widows. They Are About 8-15 times smaller than the Females You Are Probably Seeing.

You Probably Wont See A Male Often Cause The Females Eat Them.

The Males Are A Very Inferior Species And Basically Their Only Function Is Sperm Carriers For The Females And They Have Much Smaller Fangs And Venom Counts And Only Pose A Threat To Predatory Insects. or Very Young Infants/Newborns.

The Males Look More Like Redbacks Without the red stripe.

males do not have the hourglass nor the large abdomen of the female. they are considerably smaller and look like two completely different species. try doing a search for male black widow on yahoo images.

Male black widows are brown and not as big as the female, but they don't live long because the female kills them after she lays her eggs. Also, I don't think the males bite.

Yeah the males don't look much like the females. I'm not sure but I think the males are harmless unlike the females.

Just so you know - male black widows are not poisonous.

If you do a google search on images you should be able to find a picture. I know they are much smaller and look altogether different - no hourglass and no large abdomen. Not so creepy looking!

Males are the smaller brownish ones. Females have the big booty and the red hour glass.

if the red thing (which means it's female) grosses you out then you'd love to watch them mate. males are small and brownish and after mating they become the food source for the children. i'm talkin' about one serious child support payment.
