I have 17GB free of hard drive space and a 30GB hard drive and a celeron 1.2Ghz and 384MB of RAM. So my question is if i get the right software and have a free IDE port and power plug would a DVD burner work I would take out the CD burner that is in it now and put the DVD there.

yes it will work on your computer, the only down side is that when it comes to burning dvds your celeron processor will be very slow and might take a long time to burn dvds.

Beezkneez has the best answer. With an external drive, upgrading your computer won't create a compatibility problem. You'll be able to use the same burner.

hmm.
what my family did was buy a seperate dvd writable drive at Fry's, and attached it to the computer, and we just use that to copy stuff onto dvd's.

but to burn dvd's, you still need a dvd writable drive, AND another drive. that one doesnt need to be dvd writable.

stick the dvd you're burning in the regular drive and then stick a blank dvd in the writable drive and burn like you normally would a cd.

those specs look like a windows 98 machine. if you could get the burner to work, it would take forever to actually burn a DVD. i mean hours and hours.

it would take a little longer to burn a dvd, and you would have to constantly keep your hard drive clear so you maintain enough space, but it would work......
