Great question....the answer not easy. The truth of the matter is the NAACP is in a quagmire, they are in a battle of survival vs relevance. Due to their wonderful history they are shackled by keeping "tradition", IE: keeping the name, focusing on non-linear issues and refusing to partner with other groups who basically have the same goals. They are also bogged down with playing the "money game", bills gotta be paid. The reality of the situation is, if they don't have money they can't do anything for anybody. Now the argument can be made about how they are going about getting the money. I personally don't like the way they have played the game. I think the way they have played the game is contradictory to what they actually stand for. I think budding up to corporate America, the way they have, is simple and a text book example of intellectually laziness. Finally NAACP desperately needs to become relevant. They need to broaden their focus and champion an issue that is equally important to blacks and non-black. Something that will capture America's attention. However, I love my people and will continue to work with political organizations to make things better for everyone.

I don't know about corporate donations, but I do think the NAACP has been ineffective and virtually nonexistant for at least 20 years. I think it will not be possible for Black America to succeed and no longer be thought of in terms of needing to "advance" until Black Americans come together as a group. I think ending segregatiion has in some ways been bad for Black America in that the intellectual, skilled and otherwise capable of making a living folk move out of Black neighbourhoods. You have Black neighbourhoods now where virtually every adult is unemployed, where there is no real economic diversity; where business owners do not live in the neighbourhood they make their living on.
I think Black America has to find a way to come together and lift each other up because White America doesn't see the need to do so and likely never will. White America already thinks it's done all it can and that it is no longer racist.
I think your question is very interesting because it highlights two points(1) there is still such a thing as Black and White America
(2) Black America needs to "advance"
I think White America believes they've met their obligation and repaid Black America for slavery. I do not think they will ever repay or repair the damage done, and I do not think Black America will ever pull itself up unless Black achievers take an active interest in those who haven't succeeded. I think that is about as likely as the prospect of everyone receiving twenty acres and a mule. It will take hundreds of years more and many many generations of folk who break the cycle by parenting and educating their children before Black America becomes, as a whole, successful.
Till they are at last free.

Why don't you quit depending on everyone else to help you "advance" and do something for yourself!
