(This is going to sound gross but I SWEAR it works!) Don't swallow your spit. Seriously, whenever you need to swallow your saliva, spit it out into something. The saliva has germs in it that caused your sore throat and reswallowing them is going to cause them to rub against your throat and put more germs on it and make it sore longer. If you spit it out, you're getting rid of the germy spit and it'll go away faster. If you get rid of the infected saliva then your body will make new (and clean) saliva and it will help your throat. Trust me, I do this every time and my sore throat is gone in a couple days!

Here's a few ideas that always work for me. You could gargle warm salt water. Drinking tea sweetened with honey rather than sugar works great to coat your throat, as well as sucking on hard candies like Jolly Ranchers.

Please do this, it makes your throat feel so good...
Put some water to boil, whatever amount of tea you want to drink, after it boils put some real lemon juice in it and then just throw the lemon peels in it also. Add a bag of chamomile tea, some honey and also some Star Annise, if you can find it. Good Luck and drink it hot!!
