If I want info on a gig I go to the website for where the gig is held. They usually hold all the info you'll need. Because the venue usually holds alot of gigs they'll usually have a site that holds info about upcoming gigs and the ticket prices and dates/times etc. Hope this helps.

It is getting harder to get advanced infomation on concert/theatre on-sales. I signed up with all the usual ticket agents as well as smaller venue's such as Brixton. I'm also a member of fan clubs, this way you get access to another allocation plus advance e-mail notification. Look out on sites such as Last Minute.com as they will also get an allocation for most gigs.
Some of the best concerts can be at the smaller venues, big artists such as Madonna, Kylie, The Stones & Prince will play at these smaller venues.
Cheers

If you know the venue, eg Earls Court, get on their mailing list. If you can get to the box office in person on the day that booking opens you can save yourself all those wretched admin / postage charges that are added on by all the agencies like Ticket Master

a band or musical artist often advertises a excursion on myspace way in the previous the tickets bypass on sale. so in case you examine the bands myspace they have a calendar that shows the dates for the whole excursion
