I'm from France and in London for a year, so I decided to give some french lessons here. I just need to know what you would like to learn if you decided to learn an other language. What kind of things would you like to know after some lessons to be happy?

I worked as an assistant in France many years ago and I know that people were always fascinated by food. Make up some menus and encourage your pupils to make up some of their own. If it's a one-to-one situation, act out a restaurant scene, taking it in turns to be the waiter and the diner. In fact, role play is very useful in other scenarios: shopping for all kinds of things; going to the doctor; visiting the zoo...use your imagination. Magazines are also a good prop, as you can discuss whatever features grab your pupils' imagination. I taught girls, boys and (privately) adults and I found that I had to have a different work plan for each different category. Don't have too many set ideas of your own: be led by the needs and interests of the people you are teaching. When they are happy and enthusiastic, they will learn. When they are bored, then nothing much will sink in! Bon courage!

I learned french in high school & a bit in college. (i don't remember enough to carry on a convo though.) what i'd REALLY like to learn that they obviously don't teach in schools is slang & curse words. I know that stuff isn't "appropriate" but it is a part of every day conversation in ANY language whether we like it or not.

I would first want to learn how to correctly pronounciate words within the language. Then I would like to learn the basic useful everyday terms.

Given more time, I would like to learn conjugation of verbs in order to hold discussions.

My school was chosed for an experiment into teaching junior school children Frech. I loved it. We had pictures and cartoons and it was all about the morning before you cam to school and your life at home eg
je suis...
Je m'appelle
Mon lit
J'aime le cafe chaud
ou es mon livre
Ouvre la fenetre
See - I still remember it now because it mattered!

That's the first thing I learned and when someone in france starts talking very fast at you.... ask them to do this.... it makes them smile!

Something like Voulez vous verifiez la pressure des pnu.
