I heard a friend of maine telling things about Africa that I found to be stupid and insulting. for example, people living in africa do not have cultures and they walk around naked and are not smart which is a totally false.

He has never been to Africa but he claims to know every thing about Africans. As a Nigerian I found it to be crazy. I have never been to Asia or have ever lived in Europe or Asia but I would never say any thing about them that I am not sure if it is correct or claim to know every thing about them and their culture. Most Americans or people in the west believe every thing they read or see on the media but forgot that those are someone's opinion and things changed.

Please do not judge Americans or other Westerners by the total ignorant, idiot, know-it-alls who think they know everything. Most of those people are uneducated, bigoted, loudmouths who can only make themselves feel important by by spouting what they know as fact, when in fact, they really know that they don't know anything important. The intelligent ones usually don't believe half of what they read and investigate the other half to see if it is true. Then they just keep it to themselves as to not appear to be ignorant for their lack of information.

Some people research their answers, thoughts, beliefs and have a basis for everything. Others do not and only have a basis for some things that they believe, however that does not mean that everything they say is entirely incorrect, always keep that in mind. Your friend is obviously wrong in his statements because (to use a biased statement :) like most northern ignorants he is still thinking of Africa as the land where slaves originated. One reason you may find "prejudice" or "bigotry" in America is because, it is a great country still, was settled mainly by whites, and has contributed to helping some of the major world powers today become just that. That does not mean that countries that are developing quickly into becoming the next world powers' citizens will be any less but, it does mean that there will always be a difference between nations. For example, if you go back several hundred years you will find the Irish and Brits running around with either nothing or very little on, yet when Prime Minister Blair visits the White House no one re-calls these little incidents of the past to him.:) And it will be the same with Africa and any other developing country eventually, unfortunately we can't make tomorrow be today.

I never been in Africa, but I never say something stupid about that. As I know Africa have their own culture. And they are still have the strong culture.

Blame it on the Discovery Channel. That's the kind of impression they give when they do any kind of documentary in Africa. Its always about some jungle tribes that actually do walk around naked and stick things in their lips or whatever. I rarely, if ever, see anything complimentary to any African culture.
