how do peole get those little hearts on their username and their ?'s

hold ALT-and tap the anynumber more then three times

ALT+tapping number three (four times) = ♣

the heart can be obtained by pressing the ALT key and while holding it press the number three key. When you release the alt key you'll get a heart.

There are a lot of other characters out there as well.

hold alt and hit 3 on the numeric keypad (its call ASCII American standard code for informational interchange the symbols used to be how printers read text programs, and its still more useful then just for amusing little symbols it actually annoys me when people use it in conversation...)
