I am a college student. Yesterday my car was towed from the student parking lot. The univ. parking dept. said that I had parked in a handicapped spot. I told them that there was no handicapped sign on a post or picture of a wheelchair on the ground. The only thing on the ground were the blue lines. Does only having blue lines on the ground without the wheelchair symbols make that spot a handicapped spot? If you have a link to the handicapped marking law, please post it in your response. Thanks.

well most handyman signs are blue, so they expect people to use common sense and realize it is for handicap, but I think they should put up a sign because just the lines on the ground aren't enough, alot of people are in a hurry especailly at a univ., I dont pay attention to the lines very much. so a sign at eye level is a lot easier to see, you should bring up that point!! Not sure about your state laws, what state u in? That **** would piss me off !!!!

I think what you parked in was the area directly on the left or right of a handicapped space. This area is to allow the ramp to come out of a van so they can lower a motorized wheelchair.

You would have to check with your city code about the signs, I believe if you went to court you would win. But this is the kind of thing that happens in any college town, some do gooder drops a dime on you, and they think they did good, the only time your car gets towed is because some body called. Not because the cops where making their rounds, they would give you a ticket. Through the freedom of information act you can asked who called on you.

All states word their laws differently . SO--make it a point NOT to use anything that even LOOKS like a handicapped space.

SOME handicapped need extra space for loading wheelchairs etc.

The spaces are typically twice as wide as normal parking spots.

You can't fight this one, friend.
