In India, generally you have to follow several steps for mutation of an acquired land or landed property.
1. Make ready property transfer deed complete in all respect.
2. Apply to municipality/corporation/panchayet under which the property is. With all previous taxes cleared and requisite fees.
3. Register with Kachhari(land registration office) by clearing all previously unpaid khajna/ kar (land taxes) paying fees.
Exact details may depend on particular state/ district/ town.
However, you have to do quite some footwork. Or have it done by a dalal (agent) if you are pressed for time. Beware! you may end up paying exorbitant sum of money if your agent is unscrupulous.
