i don't think there is a "RULE" but many people prefer two spaces after a period. it makes it easier to read. some teachers may require it. in general it's a good idea. i hope that helps.

I've only ever put one but I usually type in 12 point font size with doublespacing set to make it easier for the tutor to skim read and make their annotations during marking.
