Elements that have some properties of metals and some properties of nonmetals are called metalloids. Silicon and Germanium are example of metalloids They are used to make computer chips.

There is a line that looks like stairs going through the periodic table that separates metals from non-metals. All elements touching this line are considered to be metalloids. THis line starts between Al and B and ends between Po and At.

Look towards the bottom of groups 4A, 5A, & 6A.
Examples include Bismuth & Antimony.
