I don't think he was a teen...If I remember correctly, he was older than the other kids. He had grown up in the home and stayed there to work, but he and 4 other orphans grew attached to each other. When they were on the verge of being separated, they ran away.

I liked the end when the judge actually let them get away...He realized the love they had for each other as a family and didn't have them pursued.
