Actually I find the opposite to be true. The wax in its pure natural form is going to stand up better as it has not been diluted or tainted with other ingredients to weaken the substance.

A darker candle, which will actually hold the heat moreso than a light candle, will therefore melt, thus burn, faster.

To make any candle burn slower put them in the freezer for a few hours prior to using them.
