There is a numbing cream you can buy. There is an RX called Emla that my friends uses on her daughter for vaccinations. There are also over the counter varieties. I would call local pharmacies and even healthfood places to see what they have.
I used to be like you when I was younger -- then I had to get allergy shots for 5 years. You are right it isn't a big deal. Just look or focus on something else.
GOOD LUCK!

You know, try to remember that the staff at medical centers see patients who feel like you do all the time. At your appointment tomorrow, I would just be honest and let the staff person who helps you know that. They're usually very understanding about problems like this.
If you're having a shot, try to remember that it will be over before you know it. If you're having a blood test, in alot of cases now they use the butterfly needles, which I think are SO much better than the older version blood test needles they used to use.
Try not to worry about crying too much. If the staff person sees that you're really nervous about this, they will usually go out of their way to give you extra time. If you DO cry, remember that it's not the end of the world. We all have SOMEthing that gets to us. Try to relax on your way to your appointment. A good relaxation technique is to inhale through your nose, then slowly exhale through your mouth. It seems to really help in calming you down.
Good luck. You'll do fine.

Hey, try this trick...
Avoid looking directly at the needle. Look away and think happy thoughts. Get your mind away from the needle piercing thru your skin. Instead, think of what you gonna do afterwards, think of the milk shake you gonna have, or the chocolate bar, or the hot date you having that night... if you don't wanna turn your head away (afraid that others think you are scared), then focus your eyes on the floor or the shoes of other ppl
It's all in the mind, really. Good luck!

Have you ever been stung by a bee? That's worse than getting a shot. You should just close your eyes so that you don't see it. If that doesn't work go to the other extreme and force yourself to watch it so that you fully understand what's happening. Hope that helps, but I've never had any problems with needles so I really wouldn't know. It sounds like it wouldn't hurt to try though.

You don't have to be scared of needles now a days...they don't hurt at all...it is just the "idea" of it that bothers you. Get over it, you are going to have to get a lot of them in your lifetime if you want to survive it. Just go in with a smile, tell them you are scared, roll up your sleeves and don't watch...and its over before you know it.. The needle does not hurt, you can only feel the vaccine going in like a little burn or tiny, tiny sting...that's IT.

I am also scared of needles. Only thing I can tell you is don't be afraid to cry. After the shot, drawing of blood whatever, sit down, close your eyes, take deep breaths and you will calm down after a few minutes.

I think you should talk to whoever is doing it before the injection or blood draw or whatever. Just tell them that you're nervous, maybe they will allow you to get it done away from other people.
Just keep repeating to yourself that it will all be over in a minute. Distract yourself by looking at something and concentrating on it or think of being on a beach or something relaxing to you.
You can get through it! Good luck.

Depends on where it is going. Ask the giver to pinch your flesh as the needle is inserted, this way there's no feeiling. If it's a dental procedure have the dentist rub the gum with freezing prior to the injection. You will not feel a thing. All the best...........ouch!!

on sunday, i got my flu shot...yes it hurt me but look at it this way we have to go through life with immunizations ok...its a given...it will only last a couple seconds and then its over. and about those that like to laugh at you ....just ignore them. if you are worried about people seeing you cry brace yourself and dont look and please dont jerk up the needle can break sometimes. be brave when receiving your shot use the other hand to bite down on it ....or think of something that gave you strength or gave your courage....Good luck and remember me on sunday i had my flu shot and yes it pinched and it stinged but im ok now and it protects me for a whole year...

Close your eyes and take a deep breath, then let it out slowly when the nurse comes with the needle.
