There is a book called "The World is Flat" by Thomas Freidman, it illistrates the fact that due to the emerging global economy and the massive growth of technology, the world is becoming flat.
I would suggest reading this book in order to better illustrate your point.

One of the chief Islamic authorities in Saudi Arabia insists that it is, because the Koran doesn't say it's spherical. As far as I'm aware, it doesn't say it isn't either, but that doesn't seem to matter..

even pre-christopher columbus people thought the world was round...there was an monk back in the day...i can't remember to specifics but i read an article on it a couple of days ago...but it is all perspective...to us in our small view it is flat...we see the horizon as a straight line...but it isn't...
