I take it you are a PC man? Well, from what I've read in consumer's report magazine you can't go wrong with either the Dell or the Toshiba. I don't know as much about the Siemens. But let me offer you an alternative -- Apple. The new Apple laptops are becoming very affordable and are able to run both PC Windows OS and Mac OS. This way you can go between both worlds easily. Also, the Macs have usually been at the top for reliability and ease of service.

Best... i would say hp. However, if you want a tablet pc, toshiba is the way to go.... dell is a good economy purchase. I used toshiba at work for programming... and i am not impressed with how it works..... but if you want a tablet pc.. go for it... (or gateway). My dad's hard drive and power cord went out on his dell laptop, so im not a huge dell fan. I have had a hp for about 6 years and it still runs pretty well!

I've never had a bad experience w/ Gateway. I've owned Compaq, Dell, & Gateway laptops & the Gateway outperformed the other two & lasted a lot longer.

Try an Acer. They're a cheaper alternative to all the other laptops out there, and I'm really happy with mine. It even has a built-in swiveling webcam.
