1. Muslims believe in the Koran, or holy book. Their religion is called "Islam".
2. They believe Allah is God and Muhammad is/was the last prophet. (Muhammad wrote the Koran)
3. There are two different groups of Muslims, including the Shi’ites and Ismailis.

For the second question, perhaps some people are prejudiced to think that all Muslims are terrorists or jihadists? Of course that isn't true, but maybe some people think that.

This is a pretty broad questions, because there are Moslems all over the world, most of them in northern Africa and Central or Eastern Asia.
But there are black African moslems in places like Senegal and Nigeria, Arab moslems in the gulf, Asian moslems in Indonesia.

So its hard to say there are common characteristics among Moslems. There are certain tenets Moslems follow:
1) Believe there is only one God and that Mohammed is the messenger of God
2) pray five times daily, towards Mecca
3) give to the poor
4) fast during Ramadan
5) visit Mecca during your lifetime
Most Moslems also refrain from drinking alcohol and eating pork

As to the orientalism (or rather anti-orientalism), as I stated the vast majority of moslems are non-white, and speak non-European languages. In the United States, most Moslems are either Arabs or African-Americans.
