is there a way to find out if someone is going to have a heart attck? i have been having the symptoms (chest pain, arm pain, back pain, shortness of breath) and got a CT scan, blood test, and EKG and they were all fine. Does this mean that I am not going to have a heart attack and it really is anxiety like the doctor said?

Sounds like anxiety to me. Don't like what the Dr told you go get a second opinion.

If you had ALL those tests and the doc said your HEART is fine, then he is probably right. Anxiety and hypochondriasm can certainly make you symptomatic and make you believe something is going to happen.

all the things you stated above can be reproduced due to ANXIETY. If you don't like his answer, you can get a second opinion.

However, if you have serious symptoms (also including NAUSEA, dizziness and fatigue) it could mean that you are HAVING a heart attack. Heart attack victims don't have those symptoms for days before an attack - they can come on pretty quickly. If you have had EKGs and CT scans and the doc says all is fine, please see a therapist regarding your anxiety

I am not sure if there is a way to tell if you are going to have a heart attack. BUT worrying about a heart attack is going to make your symptoms occur which are really panic/anxiety attacks. My first panic attack was horrible--I called my dad at 3am in the morning and told him i thought i was having a heart attack. Told me to lay down, relax and to get a paper bag to breathe in and out of(plastic grocery ones will work in desperate situations). I swear i didn't feel right for a couple days after that 1st one. Then I went to see a doc and got anxiety meds. I also went to another doc who gave me ideas that might help me stop the attacks when I feel them coming on.

It could be anxiety just like the doctor said, however you know your body better than anyone else does. It you have any of the commons sysptoms of a heart attack, I would not waste anytime getting to a different doctor. Remember a second opion doesn't hurt anyone, and if it makes your primary doctor mad, I think I would find a different dr. Your health is more important

wow, are you sure you aren't a hypochondriac? if you've had all of that and the doctor said it was anxiety it's a pretty good bet it is.. if you just can't accept that get a second opinion, there's nothing wrong with that.. after that though, you should seek out a mental health professional. also, all the signs of a heart attack are also the signs of a panic attack.. and guess what causes panic attacks? anxiety.

If you've had all the proper diagnostics and the doc says you're fine, I would venture a guess that he/she is probably right. THAT is why they go to school for about half a lifetime.
If the doc says its anxiety, ask for a Rx for an anti-anxiety drug or try a homeopathic option (St John's Wort or Calmes Forte). If the symptoms go away, there's your answer.

probably, but the surest way to know if there is damage or danger is an angiogram. Ask you dr. about it.
