I would first try rebooting the computer. Watch for the hard drive list at the initial BIOS page if your D drive is actually a separate physical drive. If it's a partition on a large local drive, that's another issue in itself. Let's just go with that it's a separate drive. If it showed up in the BIOS screen and it's still missing in Windows, then the next step would be to check the IDE/SATA cables connected between your drive and the motherboard. Oftentimes, reseating these cables is all you need to do to resolve this issue. If you're not comfortable with opening your computer case, get a professional to help you or take it into a shop. Here's a page on reseating hard disk drive cables:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-50794
Now, if you go through that and the D drive still isn't showing up, chances are you're experiencing a drive failure. You might be able to get a professional to extract data from it for you but know that a professional data recovery service is usually very expensive.
If your hard drive is external and connected to USB or FireWire, try reseating those cables. Power the unit off and back on. Then reboot your computer.
Good luck.

Reboot the computer, check to see if all the cables are plugged in (esp if your D:/ drive is removable, it could be a loose USB cable), and then go through the "My Computer" icon to see if it appears anywhere. Good luck.

Hard drive failure or a malfunction on the mother board. It's time for a new computer. You'll need one anyway to hook the D: drive into to see if it was a hard drive failure or not.
The beeping is telling you it is a hardware failure of some kind.

D:\ is usually a cd drive.... but if that is your hard drive.... I would take it out and put it into another computer and see if you can save the files on dvds or something..... if you don't know how to do that.... you probably should take it in. oh ya... and upgrade to xp or something lol

i might propose restarting your laptop the final way and see if that fixes the undertaking. of course the Dpersistent did no longer disappear that is purely that the laptop does not comprehend it and restarting that is going to enable it boot-up each and all of the drives.
