Pre-Imperialism as in, pre Teddy Roosevelt. Roosevelt steered the US more actively into world politics. He sought to create a world power and liked to quote a favorite proverb, "Speak softly and carry a big stick. . . . " (I understand this country was engaged in imperialistic endeavors, with the Native Americans but this is meant for post Manifest Destiny). Thank you.

imperialism?

look up imperialism first.

When was the last time we took over a Country or territory, or land, and put it under our government's rule. Some province's we have under us asked to be under us too, so remember that.

Are we going to give up all the land we have aquired since the birth of our nation? If so we would be back tot he 13 Colonies which were an imperialist expansion of Great Britain.

If you are referring to Chavez's remarks, he also supports Iran, who wants to take Israel's land.

So when he is saying we are "imperialists" (which we really aren't) we are setting up a government in the country we took over so that it is run by the people who live there. That is not imperialism.

Imperialism is about power and money. Remember the saying: "Absolute Power Corrupts Absolutely." Once a man, or a government is drunk with this kind of power, it is very difficult change things back to the more Democratic ways. Of the people and for the people. Good Luck ! :)

Well now, if you want debate to be fair, you have to start with a premise that people won't find imflammatory or allow them to debate that part of your statement. *although I agree that we have become imperialistic. Actually, IMO, we always have been.*

To answer your question in regard to current events on which I think it is based. Yes. The pendulum always swings back. Who put Saddam in power in the first place? Things that make you go, hmmmmmmm.

If you consider this a imperialistic society we live in today then obviously you arent coming in to a debate opened minded....can you give me a pre-imperialism time, if you feel we are imperialistic, we've been that since we started in the americas

Maybe this November when Democrats take Congress and restore the balance of powers as it should be, they can implement their plan of slow withdrawl and the international conference. If Democrats don't win and STILL have no voice, we will have to wait until the next president.

Nope, we don't want it and never did and yes we do care. We also elect and reelect our officials periodically. It keeps our system of government incheck while allowimg us to beeech amd complain as much as we need to.. In the meantime we are busy out working our butts of to make a living wage.

the notion as stated above that you need to ask the question in a non inflammatory way is typical of the "denial" response I so often see on here.
Of course we are an Empire.. please read the P.N.A.C. manifesto written By Paul Wolfowitz among others including Donald Rumsfeld...
This is "our moment" they write.. and all that was needed to kick it into high gear was a "pearl Harbor" type event...9/11 ?
