Because when i was really young i saw Nightmare on Elm Street and at the age of 24 i still have nightmares about Freddy Kruger!! Children could end up emotionally disturbed by seeing things they shouldn't. It might be too scary or have sexual references in it.

we have certificates on films so that children dont watch scary, disturbing things and then attempt to copy it (as most children will) and parents won't be able to sue the film company or whoever as they chose to allow their child to watch that film, even if there was no age certificate, they would still be able to realise it is too disturbing for a 10 year old to watch!!

yeh i see wot u mean. i see films with age certificates older than my age. i guess really scary horror films which are rated 18 wont be very suitable for a 10 year old. parents could sew (sorry i dont no how to spell it!) the film ppl for making their child mentally scared or wotever!

Age certificates are placed on movies in an effort to "protect" younger people from seeing "inappropriate" scenes in the movie.
They have a set of guide lines that determine the rating given to a particular movie. Are they accurate? No, I do not agree with their ratings. What they rate is totally inappropriate in my estimation. They try to ban all scenes that contain the naked body and making love between consensual people yet seem to enhance the brutal killing of people and destruction of property.
This is my opinion only so don't you moralist get bent nor those of you whom are against belief in an omnipresent God: God created us in His perfect likeness. He said we were made perfect. He also created us naked and He made us sexual for enjoyment and love of one another.
God also told us not to murder one another nor to destroy.
I believe those who do the rating and the criteria they must hold to is totally backwards.

Because if a child or young adult saw an 18 film, it would scare them half to death and probably scar them for life!
How can a number be annoying anyway??
