I've leased a '99 Civic, '03 and '06 Pt Cruiser GT and I've noticed that I get an unusual smearing pattern if it rains a little. If the rain is heavy enough, the wipers function normally. I've had the issue with all three cars, straight out of the dealership (honda and chryslers were from different dealerships) and usually by the end of the lease it's cleared up somewhat. I know it's not the wippers because I've repleaced them with brand name (ie Bosch) wipers but there's no change. I've ruled out road grime and whatnot (as mentioned in another question) because they cars all did it fresh off the lot. As a matter of fact when I picke dup my last car it was raining and it heppened that day. To me it looks like a could be a coating sprayed on in the factory, but I honestly dunno....any ideas anyone?

It could be a coating to keep them from picking up any grime on their ride over to the dealership...I don't know though.

Grab some InvisiGlass. It's an aerosol can of glass cleaner that you can get at any parts store, and use paper towels first. Then, after you get all of that off, buff it with a "diaper"--a lint-less rag--that you can also find at the store.

Vinegar works real well too, but this stuff has always seemed to clean even the stubborn stuff off.

It is probably a result of the 'spray on' wax that many places use in the auto prep. Many people notice the same phenomena after going to a drive through car wash or 'DIY' wash bay.

With enough water and wiping, it goes away but at first it just mears all over- often showing a whitish film.

does the water bead then rolls off the winshield if it does it's either three things alot of times car dealers have a detail person who adds rain-x to the winshields but get on the wiper bladesor its the wax they spray at the car wash the kind you drive trough,or the film of silicone to repel dust it embeads in your windshield glass clean with windix and wipe with dry newspaper the comic stips work the best!!

Try using Rain-X, it will clean as well as protect your windshield from smearing. It beads off water better than anything that I know of. Easy to apply and works well for winter time as well.

I have this problem, too.

Somebody told me it's because I have the car spray waxed at the car wash, and it coats the windshield.

Try Rainx. That should stop the smearing.

it's probably where you live, there could be lots of dust in the air.
