i would of rent one for him way cheaper i heard, but it's pretty late for him to start so i'm gussing that all the used ones are gone. so , does anyone know how much one cost?

Search on line. Be sure to specify what type of sax he's using. Alto, baratone saprano? That can change the price greatly. Try a google search and do a search on e-bay.

Altos are typically cheaper then tenors. I got my tenor sax used for about $700.

New anywhere from $150 or so for a Chinese student model up to thousands. Used, whatever you can negotiate.
