wow I'm loving the responses here.. (not really)
Congrats on being pregnant! You're almost half way done!
Big damage? Hmm.. that's a trick question.. There was a huge percentage of the population of our parents generation who smoked heavy while pregnant and breastfeeding us... and we weren't born with drug addictions, black lungs and tons of medical problems...
Do some research.. See what crosses over into the placenta.. I believe the biggest thing is the nicotine... You're not filling your babies lungs up with smoke.. Actually right now your babies lungs are filling up with its own body waste (yeop! that's what amniotic fluid is.. yum yum)
Get a support person that will help you cut down until you can quit completely... Quitting smoking is VERY stressful and is worse for your baby then the smoking...
Maybe you can start out by giving your pack to someone for the day and only leaving yourself 2 smokes for the day...
Its always in your best interest to quit when you're pregnant.. but you're not the devil if you smoke.. You're increasing risks when you do that (asthma ect ect ect) but 99% of all babies born to mothers who smoke are 100% healthy and have no ill effects from mommys habit!
Good luck quitting!!!! You can do it! Quitting isn't hard.. It's staying quit that is the hard part!

When I was pregnant I didn't start showing at all until I was about 5 months but man between 5-6 months I blew up! I looked 9 months at 6. It just all depends on the woman some don't start showing until they are in their 3rd trimester. I woudn't be concerned about it as long as your doctor isn't. Talk to your doctor about it at your next appointment they can help calm your fears. I hope that your smoking is not what is causing the problems with your pregnancy. Surely the doctor has already discussed your smoking with you. You should quit now, any time is better then never. I quit drinking THE DAY I found I was pregnant and I drank quite a bit. If you truly want to do what is best for BOTH you and your baby you will find the will to quit.

Well, I feel like telling you something about smoking, but I have a feeling that everybody else will so I won't. You really should ask your Dr. My friend smoked during her pregnancy and she decided to quite partway through, and her Dr. told her by that point that it might stress the baby since it would cause him to go through withdrawals. However you should get your own Dr.'s opinions about what is best, and hopefully that is stopping smoking and he/she can tell you the safest way to quit. My friend's baby was born underweight, and has had several delays in his development, including gross motor skills and speech. I'm not sure if it was because of the smoking or not, but that couldn't have helped. If your Dr. tells you not to quit smoking now then I really hope you do once the baby is born. Children who have smoking parents are more likely to develop Asthma and allergies and have more severe colds than other kids, and they are more likely to grow up to be smokers themselves.

Okay to quit. You should have already quit. Smoking during pregnancy is bad (I'm sure you already know this). The sooner you can stop the better it will be for your baby. My sister-in-law smoked during her whole pregnancy it was disgusting. When her baby was born, they induced early (I'm guessing to get the little guy out of there ASAP). He had to spend over a week in the hospital hooked up to breathing stuff. He had rapid breathing (it almost sounded like he had constant hiccups or he was panting like a dog). They even had to bring home special equipment to monitor his breathing at night, because yes your baby has a higher chance of dying of SIDS because of you smoking right now. He is about 6 months old now, he sounds a little better, but still isn't right. Also, by smoking during pregnancy and around your baby after it is born will significantly increase its chance of having asthma. Also, there are studies being conducted (some complete) that show children who had mothers who smoked during pregnancy seem to have higher behavioral problems (i.e. your terrible 2's will be worse than your average mother).
PLEASE STOP NOW!!! Or if you find you are unable to stop at least try to cut back how much you smoke each day.

Honey the damage is done. The most important things happen during your first trimester. But stop smoking. Don't you know smoking causes low birth weight along with a lot of other issues.

It is always okay to quit now. Your babies lungs are one of the last things to develop, so don't get upset. You may have a smaller than average baby if you do continue to smoke though. Good Luck quitting!

yeah you should have quit the moment they told you were pregnant your baby could still have a chance of coming out with low birth weight or deformed. just to be safe if your insurance wont pay for it you should have a 4-d ultrasound done just to make sure that your baby looks fine.
