I saw it in the theatres when it first came out, and remember thinking that it was AMAZING. I especially remember one shot of the Russian cartographer with his Mongolian guide, trudging through the wastelands with both the sun and moon high in the sky. Beautiful stuff.

Dersu Uzala was one of my favorite movies of all time. The incredible cinematography and the powerful moods set, especially by the main actor (the guide) were really moving. Unfortunately, it is hard to find that movie on video at a decent price, last time I tried.

I've rented it on VHS. I liked it pretty well. I may buy it some day.
