I personally like Gulf Shores/Orange Beach, Alabama. It's a beautiful beach and not too crowded.

Probably the best beaches are the beautiful Lake Michigan beaches along the "West Coast" of Michigan. Nice sand, fresh water, calm waves, (and no sharks or jellyfish :) ).
