Law school, makes more money in the long run, not many things you can do with a Ph.D in history.

It is not about money or your mind would have been made up immediately. However you must look at your own personality to determine the best fit.
A History Doctorate would be teaching and research. Very well suited for the quiet introspective person. This profession would never make you rich unless you publish, but it would have intrinsic values that could be very fulfilling.
A law degree, requires plenty of research time, but also requires you to be able to argue a case and convince a jury. It is a skill for the outgoing personality. Lawyers can make six figures right out of law school, but you have to be aggressive and goal oriented to succeed.

It depends on what you want to do. A Ph.D in History will only be valide if you plan on getting into academia. A law degree can help in a number of arenas besides just being a lawyer, such as federal law enforcement.

well, do you want to be a lawyer? If so, go to law school, if not there is no point in going, so you should get the PhD. In my opinion a degree doesn't make a good historian anyway though.

To make money one has to be the best in his field. So how much do you think your history teacher makes, But if money is not the point which makes this world a better place to live.

The only reason to get a PhD is because you can't NOT get it. You have to love doing research -- and I mean really love it. You hav eto want to do it even if you can't get the PhD.
