What do you think of the American's accent? Does it turn you on or anger you?

It neither turns me on or angers me. And I find most accents in America easy on the ear with the exception of that idiotic "gangsta" type street urchin waffle.

I really don't have any time or patience with or for that.

Closest to generically sexy has to be that soft southern type drawl, I think. As in: "Starrrr worrrs dee-fay-ence een-ish-iteeve.

Mind, I do also have a sneaking admiration for proper American swearing. It can be very...

lyrical :o)

As a rule I'm not a huge fan, it's ok and I much prefer it to say the Aussie accent, which I can't bear.
It varies from what part of America - I've heard some very sexy American accents but I really dont like the southern accent, too many y'alls going on for my liking!
My favourite accents are Irish (soooo sexy) and welsh cos it's so sing-songy I find it really charming!

Like Britain American suffers from regional dialect. Some sounds almost like posh Irish when spoken well That maybe the Boston area I can't remember. New York, Chicago just sounds American. Its the south and Texas that sometime yo ove and other times really grates against you.

As for turning you on or making you angry depends who is delevering it.

Its probably the same for the British

I used to think it sounded silly and broad. American tourists would come to the pub where I worked in Bath and they would exclaime: "Oah, it's sooo quwaint" and "Can I have those potaitoes on eh side, and no mayo" (Which they coundn't, the meals only come one way I'm afraid) Then then would expect table service, but they do tip, which Brits generally don't do in pubs.

I now live in America, so I don't even hear the accent anymore, and mine had gotten broader too (to my dismay.) But to your question: I used to think people with American accents sounded not quite there, now it neither turns me on nor anger me.

Some are cool and some just grate. I could not say which is which though. I have been to a few times New York and the variety there between New Yorkers is incredible. I think mostly I like them , but probably haven,t heard all of them yet.

OK, not all Americans from the south sound like complete morons. We, yes I said WE, do talk a little different, but that's how we do it in the south. Please don't make fun of the way we talk, cause "ya'll" talk wierd too, and don't even get me started on that.

I know the question is entitled "Question for British and Irish folk",
but I couldn't resist. Sorry.

There's nothing wrong with the accent, it's the grammar that's the problem. There are instances all over the web where they use " an " instead of " a ". She bought him an birthday cake.

It really depends on which American accent you're talking about, though i quite like the way the people from Louisiana talk!

It doesn't make me angry but it can be quite irritating at times.
Especially the Southern accents, it takes them about half an hour to order a drink....
"Caaaannnn IIIIIII haaaaaavvvvveee aaaaaa piiiiiint offfff beeeeeeeeerrrrrrr pppplllleeeeeaaaassssee!!"
