Nuclear power is being used more and more throughout the world, despite not having a feasable means of disposing of the waste, because it is much cleaner, more reliable and generates more power than plants that use fossil fuels.
With the power loads demanded by increasing technology, plants that burn fossil fuels are woefully underpowered to meet demand. It requires several coal or oil fired plants, spewing tons of COs and NOX, as well as other air pollutants, into the air daily to meet the output of one nuke plant.
They want a nuclear weapon, a different issue from their nuclear power program, to put themselves on the world stage, just like Pakistan, India, France and NK. Ahmadinejad admitted he doesn't want nukes, he wants the prestige that goes along with them.

I really doubt that Iran is "floating on oil." Oil is a non-renewable supply, you just can't go grow more or make more. Any country looking to their own future should be looking for more than just one way to power themselves. Nuclear weapons are just a small part of the whole picture. We are in much more danger from North Korea than Iran.

nuclear weapons wont stop America from invading since the US has nearly 10,000 nuclear warheads. there less than 300 nations on earth. the US could destroy much of the world by distributing those 10,000. its not even a question of what would prevent the US from invading.
besides, iran imports 40% of its gas because they dont have the technology to utilize their resources.

Realistically, there is only about 50 years of oil left.
It would be smart for all these OIL countries to start planning on how they are going to provide energy, jobs, growth after the OIL runs out.
Guess what, when the middle east runs out of oil, guess who will have Oil, Natural Gas, Wind Energy, Solar Energy, and Coal?

They want to get rid of Israel first, and then have their way with anything they want. In the region, and in the world.
