Major Kudos on the white toothpaste! I never even thought of that.

-Can't just leave them, I would like my deposit back!

I used to use toothpaste in the dorm rooms. Crest for the light blue walls, any white for the others.
or, get some spackling compound and a small can of matching paint.

At least go to a hardware store and get some Spackle. That is what you should use.

In the future, you may want to try using just plain straight pins. You'd be surprised on the weight they can hold expecially if put in with at an angle

go to your local hardware store and get some lightweight spackling. it's only a couple of dollars and it works great. don't be shy, and ask the people who work there to help you find it. Here's a link as well. The cheapest one is like 2 or 3 dollars. http://www.reddevil.com/productDetail.cfm?id=0541RT&c=pr&cat=47

normally you are not required to fill holes from nails and stuff. It's considered normal wear and tear. I would check with your landlord first and see if it's necessary.
