If you go to a decent place to get it pierced you'll be ok the next morning. Make sure everything has been autoclaved or that it is a brand new disposable. I had mine pierced at 1 in the afternoon and ate dinner that night with out any pain and could talk fine as soon as I took the ice off. If swelling is bothering you use ice on your tongue. Try to avoid aspirin or any other pain killer that will thin your blood. They should give you a mild mouth wash to use every 2 hours or so, but if they don't use salt water rinses. Also do NOT use listerine it will prevent the healing process and increase the time the tongue is swelled. Maintain good oral hygiene and you should be fine. Also, do not kiss open mouthed or preform sexual acts with your mouth untill you are fully healed (4-6 wks). You may think it sucks, but it could save you a lot of hassle and pain down the road.

The bar is going to pierce your muscle so of course it will swell and the heal in about 2 weeks, but you will have to re-train that muscle. You will have to think about eating slower so that the bar dosnt connect with your teeth. They will use a larger bar firstly to accomodate the swelling then when the swelling goes down but I would say in about 1 month you should buy a small bar so it sits tighter on the tongue to prevent swimming around in the mouth. You will talk funny because you will be concious of it. I just smiled at people for the first week as I couldnt pronounce words and felt like an id, I then took it out for professional reasons. Enjoy !!

It took me about 3 days to talk right again. I was a bartender, so it was really hard. I didn't get to really eat for about 4-5 days. The second time I had it done was easier. It did not swell and I could talk and eat the same day. I used Listerine all day because I smoked at the time and you have to keep it clean. They should tell you what do use and for how long. Good Luck!

I recently got my tongue pierced about 2 weeks ago now. They tell u talk to talk as normal as possible. Your tongue will swell considerably and you will talk funny. As far as cleaning it, you must rinse with listerine and clean the piercing with Glyoxide to keep it from getting infected. After u eat, smoke ect.For the first few days stick to cold stuff, such as ice and icecream. Do not drink through a straw for at least 10 days! It can make it get infected. If ur tongue turns yellow, that is normal bc of the listerine. I was advised not to have oral sex or tongue kiss anyone for at list 2 weeks. Theres more to this so if u have ne more questions please contact me. But for the most part the piercer will tell you. Congrats on the piercing and good luck. It is tons of fun to play with.

I got my done a few years ago and it was nothing too painful since they poke the needle in so fast, but I noticed when I got home my tongue felt really uncomfortable, then the next morning my tongue was really swollen and hurting really bad. I finally pulled the bar out and my tongue started bleeding uncontrollably. I had to call a dr. and he said for me to keep ice on it, and that the piercing guy must have hit a vein...My advise, be careful who you go to and make sure you take every sign of pain seriously. Oh yeah, and just so you know...the whole piercing thing is usually a faze and you usually grow out of it pretty fast, especially when you want to work someone decent. I got my eyebrow pierced, took the bar out and now I have two holes on my eyebrow...think about it!!!

The piercing itself doesnt hurt, its over 1,2,3. It stays swollen for about a week, once the swollen goes down then you can get a smaller gage put in your toung and youll have no problem with speach. to keep it clean and free of infection use Listerine and while you are in the healing process use it after everything you eat or put in your mouth (ecspecialy if you smoke). To help with the swolling I use to have shakes, slushies, and things of that nature. I hope this helps

I've had my tongue pierced for a few years now. It hurt when I got it done, but it did not swell or bleed, although my sisters did. We both had trouble talking for the first day but after that it was fine. They told us to rinse our mouth every hour with listerine and after you eat, drink, smoke, etc. We were fine with eating afterwards also, just be careful when you chew since you're not used to having your tongue pierced. We kept biting ours at first, lol. Good luck.

There was no blood, just swelling.
I could not talk properly for 2 or 3 days, but the pain lasted nearly two weeks. First it was a sharp pain, and then a nagging pain. It eventually went away.

It will swell up for a few days only. Just make sure to put a shorter barbell in after the swelling goes down to avoid chipping your teeth, plus it is more comfortable when talking.
