That's a hard age to plan for - not a child but not a teenager either. There are several clubs around here that are for this age group (they are like dance clubs with more supervision and no alcohol). These are always a no-brainer, and it let the kids feel like they are adults. You could always rent a spot or two in a recreational area (lake, state park, etc) and let 'em run wild. Just make sure that caffeine is present (red-bull and similar they LOVE) and in large quantities - they will ware themselves out while they are there, and the parents will thank you later! lol The thing that you really want to focus on having is a sense of freedom for them (while still being supervised). It's not like you have to be right in the middle of everything, they are at THAT age..ugh! Ask your child what he/she wants in a theme (if any) and see what they come up with. I know you definitely don't want to be the parent who hooks the kids up with a clown only to make your child the punchline of adolescent jokes after the party. Definitely ask your child, and go from there. Keep their false feeling of freedom thing in mind - it means a lot to them at that age. I wish you luck, and take care!

We're doing a Star Wars theme for my nephew.
I've had an 80s party and a Roman Holiday (togas, etc.) recently and both went over well.
