Try the link below -- it will show you exactly what a brown recluse looks like, where it lives -- and LOTS of pictures and descriptions of spiders that are often mistaken for the brown recluse. Maybe you can find yours there!
Also a search using "spiders mistaken for brown recluse" should give you other sites with additional information this -- that's how I found this one.
Good luck!

I don't have any way of saying what kind of spider it was based on that description, sorry. It could be hundreds of them. But how many feet were the "balls" on? If it was just two, it is probably just the reproductive parts of the males. They have bulbs on their palps (look like legs, but shorter, and used for feeling, holding prey, etc...) that are used when mating. I can't say I am familier with any sort of balls that could be on a spider other than that.

There are a lot of different spiders out there. When I need to identify something I usually use Yahoo, type in what I am looking for (house spider), then hit images. You can do the same thing on Google. Try to limit you search by putting in as many key words as you can (brown house spider). Let us know if you identify it!

It is really difficult to guess what type of spider it is without a photograph, especially if it doesn't have any distinctive features.
Here's a link to Bug Guide, a site with many photographs and good resources for identification of arthropods. The link will take you directly to the Spider photographs section, but there's a lot more to browse:

Good luck in your search!

Could be a huntsman, they have kind of expanded pads at the end of their legs. I attached a link to photos of common spiders.
