Have used both and have to say the best is the steam iron and the good old ironing board. The iron press as in a table top version only ever caused me grief! I got burned everytime I opened it because the top heats up too so every time I tried to remove or turn an item around SIZZLE I have a whole plie of scars now!! If you're really bored of ironing I recommend your favourite drink in a tall glass with crushed ice, a great movie on t.v. a comfortable sitting position where you can reach the ironing and hang it in the same area and bobs your uncle it gets done before you know it!! OOh I've rambled yep the steam iron gets my vote every time.

Steam presses are great but take a while to heat to desired temperature and usually an iron is needed to finish off small parts that can't be reached on the press. I prefer a good steam iron.

It depends.
I use a steam iron, because I iron only very few things.
My sister uses a press because she has much more things to iron. She does a faster and better job with the press than I do with the steam iron.
If you have only few things and tend to avoid ironing as much as possible a steam iron might be the better choice.
If you have many things and want them done fast the investment in a press and the time to learn how to use this press might be worth it.
A trick that might help you avoid creating new creases:
Pin the garment you want to iron onto your ironing board. This way it will not shift and will not create new creases by shifting.

My wife wouln't know how to use an iron! She's used a (Elna) press for so long now, sits down twice a week for about an hour, and it's done. Effortless Don't need steam it's the pressure that does it. You can fold sheets and press 8 thicknesses together!
