Carpet or RUG Cleaning

Soiling dulls the beauty of the carpets. Foot traffic, pets, and spills are certain other things that need to be attended to, to keep the carpet in good condition and for a longer time. There are certain 'do it yourself tips ' for carpet maintenance apart from the regular professional help that you may require.
For routine cleaning :
Vacuum clean the carpets regularly
Regular beating of the rug or carpet on the rear will remove most of the loose dust.
Sweeping or brushing will also help remove the loose dust.

For wet spills :
Act instantly
Do not rub, just blot the spill with a blotting paper or cloth.
Dilute the remaining spill with cold water and blot again
Repeat till it is no longer visible.
Mild wool detergent may be used for light stains.

If incase you feel that you should not try your hand on stain removal simply blot the wet spill and seek professional help for improper cleaning may cause the stain to set deep in the carpet and make cleaning even more difficult.

There are several factors that affect spot and stain removal :
Age of stain - immediate removal is best. Time lets the stain set in the carpet.
Type of stain - it determines the removal method.
Stains due to hot spills are difficult stains.
More the concentration of the spoilage, harder to remove.
Fiber and pile type along with the surface area are also important criteria.

Professional carpet care should be availed once a year or so. Care should be taken that the carpets are always washed with water or steam, or dry cleaned depending on the instructions. Chemicals should be avoided.

hope this has helped you

Carpets/Upholstery:
1) A great non-toxic carpet stain remover is club soda. Soak spot immediately with soda and blot until the stain is gone.
2) Pet Urine on Carpets: Dab area with toweling to absorb as much as possible, wash spot with liquid dish detergent, and rinse with 1/2 cup vinegar diluted in 1 qt warm water. Lay towels or paper towels over the spot and weight down to absorb excess moisture. Let stand 4 to 6 hours, then remove toweling, brush up nap and allow to dry completely. Use an electric fan to speed drying.
3) Red wine stains can be removed from carpet by rubbing baking soda in and vacuuming.
4) Sprinkle cornstarch onto carpet, vacuum.
5) To remove grease spots from carpets, first sop up the liquid with a sponge, then rub a liberal amount of baking soda into the spot. Let it absorb overnight. Next day, remove the excess and vacuum the area.
6) To remove grease spots from carpets, first absorb excess with a sponge, then rub a liberal amount of corn starch into the spot. Let sit overnight, then vacuum.
7) Dry cornstarch sprinkled on rug and vacuumed.

Have you tried Vanish Carpet Stain Remover?

You might try this product out...Nature's Miracle. It's sold at pet stores and is marketed for pet stains. But it works well for all kinds of stain. It works so much better than the over the counter products like "Resolve carpet cleaner".

I use Folex carpet cleaner and it is wonderful on those tough stains. Way better than Resolve, which I used to use prior to discovering Folex. It works on upholstery, too, which is a big plus - I have a microfiber couch that nothing else works effectively on.

if it's a really bad stain, you might want to try giving "chem-dry" a call. they are professional rug/upholstery cleaners. they do a good job but may be a little more costly.
