it could be anything, is the knocking coming from under the car or from the engine?..
from under the car, probably u need to do some tightening, or need to get your steering box checked.
from the engine, then u have a problem

For a pinging sound it could be bad gas or your timing's off.. now for a knock it could be several things ranging from low oil ,rods,rwd cars flywheel bolts,U joints and rearend go see a tech. good luck

Go to a mechanic before your engine blows up. Could be a lot of things, but if it is a head gasket and it blows you are screwed.

It's called detonation and can be caused by bad gas, old gas, or carbon build up in the cyclinders

perhaps it needs to be timed properly, or change the gas you are using to a higher grade
