I certainly wish that more care was taken in society to provide a higher standard for those at the bottom of the economic ladder. We have the means, of that there is little doubt. That being said, things are no worse today than they have previously been. Even a cursory survey of American history will demonstrate my point. In the 1800's there was slavery, women could not vote, sign contracts, own property, etc. and most of the privileges of our democratic society were reserved for land owners. In a way things are better now than they have ever been. At least real opportunity exists for all, if not real equal opportunity. That has not been true for the majority of our history.
But still, we can do better.......

The unemployment rate is low. The rich are putting more money into our economy...and supplying more jobs. They pay more taxes as they make more money and that also helps the economy. Anyone can work hard and make a good life for themselves. Or you can sit on your behind and complain and whine that this isn't a Communist society where the government gives everyone what they think you should have. Get off your duff and work ...HARD...get more education. if your need more education..go get it.. Stop Complaining!!! My husband... a Veteran Marine is making $8.00 an hour...working 60 hrs a week and supporting myself and a child. We already raised 7 kids and after moving to be near grand kids..at 48 yrs old it took him 8 months to find the job he has. He works hard, and takes classes online to better himself. .HE NEVER WHINES or Complains that someone else has it better then him. He just does what he can to make our life better, and we love him for it. I babysit and earn $100. wkly. He hates that I have to work, but I can't see him doing t by himself. We love and support each other. I build him up and we are very happy. money isn't what gives you happiness. I have been on both sides of that equation and believe me....love and inner joy..tops money any day.Go help yourself and get out of the entitlement mentality. We aren't envious of someone with more. they earned it. So can you...go do it!

Your comment on free-trade is flawed-- USA's trade policy stinks. Free trade means that other countries are free to send all they want to the US but we have bigger-restrictions on what we can send there.
Outsourcing jobs is not a bad thing necessarily plus libs should really be on board with it since it raises the std of living for many poor countries (e.g. India, China). Those countries in turn can start to buy goods we make (assuming we actually get our act together and work on trade policy).
Sorry dude, but in the US, everybody has a chance to succeed- that's not a guarantee to succeed. And we shouldn't punish people for doing well thru hard work and ingenuity. Smart people will always find a way to make money and even in so-called better environments where everybody is "equal", there are rich and there are poor. A fact of life is that there will always be people at all levels in the continuum of income levels.

The problem in America at the moment is that the general population is too busy watching football and worrying about what kind of car they can drive to bother noticing injustice. It's not even popular for young people to be smart, or informed.
Greed and power go a long way, but in the end things have a tendency to even out. The process is rather messy unfortunately.

I think that America's wealthy, are also the world's most generous.
When Bush gave $350,000,000 to help with the Indonesian Tsunami disaster, Bill Gates, gave a billion, then started another charity in the USA.
Warren Buffet recently donated over $35,000,000,000 to charity.
The McDonald's heiress, left a huge fortune to the Salvation Army.
God Bless

I think foreigners need jobs, too. Many people who hire foreign workers are in grave poverty, and we can't let them die like that. If we don't want everyone to come over here, we should teach them skills to take back to their own country. I have this friend who is from Cambodia, and he has great potential but he won't go to school. He works in a donut shop and can only make enough money to live by, which does not seem fair because Cambodia is a poverty-stricken country and it is not his fault that his country is poor.
