This is a great question, it seems to me or is evident that women at first think irrational about finding a mate and choose the good for nothing men because of the attraction of power, then time and time again finally get the point of thinking logically and say to themselves I need a guy with such and such qualities as a mate, and by then more problems arise by having children and baggage from past relationships. My evidence is with co-workers, acquaintances, seperated wives, and even strippers!
An example would be in the movie the 40 year old virgin, the guy finally gets a woman with baggage, children, etc.... time and time again after dealing with jerks finally realizes in her old age that she needs a man with positive qualities and it takes a virgin who is truly desperate to have a woman to accept all the baggage that she has with her. That is just sad.

For the same reason men deny woman of positive influence in favor of large boobs....there is no accounting for someones' taste.

I've met a lot of women who just can't resist a fixer upper. It stems from some deep seated pleasure they take from feeling needed. Not all women have this issue, but the ones who do will find themselves attracted to losers time and time and time again. Children most often learn their gender rolls from their same sex parent, and many of these women grew up watching their mothers play the martyr to husbands or boyfriends who were not the best. When you think of it as a pattern behavior passed from generation to generation you can see how the barefoot and pregnant patterns that our great-grandmothers took for granted have been passed right down to us. Women who choose a mate with some degree of logic (how romantic) will find it easy to break this pattern, but we live in a society that frowns on arranged marriage, so the selection process becomes a fiasco of emotion, and you can't justify emotion.
