i put over 1400 sq.ft in someone's house. it's not dense. trust me. every cut was made on the wet saw, because my tile snapper would crush the stone. anyway
if it is a light scratch it can be buffed out with progressive steps of sandpaper start with 150 grit working up to wet sanding with 600 grit or higher depending on the sheen. I'd try it in a little hidden spot first, to see how it will work. anything half way deep, just replace the piece.

No problem, they can be repaired, but you will need a professional stone refinisher to do that for you. The stone needs to be ground down and buffed. By the way, travertine is quite a dense stone -- contrary to popular misconception. After that, if I were you I'd make sure that you put some sort of protection (felt, rubber?) under your furniture, to avoid future damage.
