Absolutely.
The exact opposite of Pain and Suffering is Pleasure and Happiness, and not Bliss and contentment. Pain-Pleasure, Suffering-Happiness are the dualities of this phenomenal world. We experience these dualities because of our imperfect being and ignorance; because our psyche is deeply rooted in the multitudinous perception of Reality. After one gets an experience of the nuomenal and realizes the Unity inherent in the entire creation (that there is only one Source, the only "reality"), the perception of multiplicity melts away. In such a state (called by Buddhists as enlightenment, by Hindus as Videh-mukti) the above-mentioned dualities are not "opposities" but two sides of the same coin. This state is the state of Bliss and Contentment where there are no conflicts, no dualities. It is a state that has no "anti-state".

If one understands the basic fact that the sumtotal of human being is made of physical body and the (non physical) mind then it is easy to know that Bliss and contentment are the ingradients of the mind and pain , that of the body. A woman , in the process of the delivery of her child is a typical example. Her physically experienced pain, she will bear with pleasure because her mind is on the arrival of her child, which she expects eagerly.
You can experience bliss with or without feeling pain.

Unfortunately, no. It is the pain and suffering that makes it possible to experience bliss and contentment...conversely you cannot experience pain and suffering unless you experience blixx and contentment. You can't have the one without the other.

In ecstasy, there is bliss and contentment. Pain and suffering get sublimated in the ecstatic joy. It is a state of thoughtlessness. When there is no thought, where is the question of experiencing pain and happiness. Pain and pleasure are the two sides of the same coin. It cannot be separated. Take the crude example of sexual organism. Can you separate pain and pleasure in it? Both become indistinguishable in orgasm.

I think that you have to work to get to a place of bliss and contentment so you will experience pain and suffering along the way...I would think that it would be next to impossible not to experience both.

No. Without pain and suffering, bliss and contentment don't exist. How can you say something is blue if you've never seen any other color? How can you say something is beautiful if you've never seen something ugly? You can't know the meaning of a subjective word without knowing its oposite....You can't truly know or understand bliss without first experiencing pain.

Not possible till you are in bodies like this which like not only sweets but also hots. Like going to Ooty or Kashmir for pleasant atmosphere, you have to go to some star where you get 100% bliss and 0% grief. All our ancestors at various places made every effort to find out that Supreme Abode and the results are our various religions. (But, some selfish power mongers,as we know, misused our sacred religious beliefs and created fear and fever in us) So, to know that place please read first your books.

Ober dictum, movie stars that were never down and out as are those born into old wealth and have not squandered it, less likely to experience pain and suffering, if at all. If and when they fall, it's usually from great heights. More details ?

I heard the saying, "You gotta go through hell to get to heaven"
It's just an expression that I've heard. It's sorta true. Then you learn to appreciate things in life better. Do you think Paris Hilton knows how to appreciate things.....Noooooo., everything was given to her. She'd HATE a days labor just to get some food on the table and be LUCKY if she can watch Cable TV.
Im not mocking her! Im just making a point!
