I dont go to porn websites. Also, Im at work so I dont go to any "questionable" websites. However, people in my network at work are getting emails that look like they are coming from my email address but they are really spam.

That's weird because I never use my work email address when filling things out, I always use my Yahoo address. Could it find out my work email addy?

it isn't totally about which sites you visit, but also where you use your email address. There are websites which once you register or leave an email with, they sell your email to marketers. Also some hackers and bots search the internet for email addresses that are entered into forms.

So...the solution is #1) to visit known and trustworthy sites (stay away from porn and warez sites and #2) obtain an free email address for registering for average websites and junkmail so that it won't matter if anyone gets ahold of it and keep your real email safe and only share it with secure sites (ones with the lock symbol - 128 bit SSL ) and people you know.

Any time you fill in your email address on a form, you are inviting it. Also if you post it anywhere (like here-that is why Yahoo hides them) webcrawlers can pick it out and add it to the list.
