First thing you need to do is get your songs copyrighted

If you're looking to get it played on the radio only, even this is tricky, mainly due to the new "legal" forms of payola that the major record labels engage in to fill our airwaves with the repetitive drones of musical dreck. I don't know if you have that kind of cash or other amenities laying around. However, i would also like to say don't cry over a burst bubble yet. You can possibly look online for the phone numbers of local stations & asks for the program director's name & whether or not they play local or indepedent talent. Now if you're looking to get paid, that's a whole other animal altogether. Visit your local library (or Amazon.com) for some books on song publishing. They'll be a bigger help. Hope this gives you some ideas. There are just so many details about this sort of thing...check these books. The titles may not be correct, but keyword the authors names & they'll pop up. GOOD LUCK!

Get yourself out there as much as possible. Play some gigs - anywhere locally - that you can. Try a brewpub or small neighborhood bar to start with, or a town festival in your area. Sell your demo cds at these gigs. Also, look into whether or not your local radio stations have a "homegrown" show that features unsigned artists. Get yourself on that.

DO NOT send your demo to anyone who doesn't ask for it - especially record labels and radio stations. It's a waste of time and your demo because they go right in the garbage. (Most labels and stations have a policy about not accepting unsolicted material for legal reasons.)

Good luck!
