Being mature these days seems to have more to do with emotional maturity only instead of a persons age and life experiences plus emotional maturity. I have met teenagers who act more mature than people in there 30's I think that's a little scary.
Wanting or being used to instant gratification is a sign that you still have some work to do in that area of your path as do many people. All things considered you seem to be doing well but remember the wisdom of being patient with yourself and the ability to learn from your mistakes is part of the equation too. :o)
PS. On this path that you are on don't forget from time to time too slow down and enjoy the view.

Maturity can also be a judgement by someone elses expectations of you. Sounds like someone at one stage told you to grow up, or this or that won't happen until you're more mature.
Two words that describe maturity is responsibility and reliability, that is often in a workplace situation. Then there is emotional maturity - like not making jokes about other peoples misfortunes and having the understanding to realise all people are different. Lots of states of behaviour come under maturity.
Real maturity comes with experience and wisdom. In your need or want to become mature, don't lose sight of the innocence inside of yourself and be the best you can be.

Hmmmm... Tough question. To answer better I needed to know more about you. Based on your Yahoo questions and answers you are not anywhere close to mature. For starters, you seem to live your personal life by chance... fortune tellers and total strangers making life altering decisions for you????? In love with a pimp? Puh-lease. What ever happened to that nice boyfriend you were trying to open up to? Still trying to fool your p.o. or did you learn your lesson yet? You see, maturity is quelling that urge for instant gratification in favor of long term planning, values, and smart (i.e. logical, not emotional) decisions. Boring? Yeah, in the short term... but the results are infinitely better. As much as you think you are doing the right thing, the bottom line is that maturity is measured by actions, not feelings or intentions. I don't buy it when someone says my lover is really a good guy/girl deep down. If they act like an *** then that's what they are. Likewise, no matter how mature you think or feel you are becoming, if you still act like the world revolves around you, if you've never sacrificed for the long term greater good, if you've never put someone else above your own personal needs, then you are still emotionally a child.

Going to college and getting a degree will make you grow up fast. It cures one of instant gratification because it takes most people 4 or 5 years to get through. It's not like getting a paycheck every 2 weeks. Plus it's work.

By the way you address responsibility. If you are not responsible then you are not mature. Set goals and then when you reach them you know that you are on the right path.
Small goals at first then bigger as you become better at achieving them.

I think it's good that you are aware of a weakness of yours so you can work on it. Just set goals for your life... like a one month goal, 6 month goal, one year goal, five year goal, etc. This will help you stay focused. Being mature doesn't mean being serious all the time... you can still have fun, just be aware that you have responsibilities also. :-)

I think I can tell that I'm mature when I stop --
1) watching cartoons with or without my kids
2) playing video games
3) acting childish when it comes to food
4) making fun of toys or clothings while in the shopping mall
5) disagreeing that my wife is much more mature than myself
Boy... I don't see that forthcoming yet so iono!!! *sticks tongue out*

Actions will speak louder than words. When you understand this, you are mature.
