Diversity, as many others have said, is a quality, not a problem. Frankly, I think your country is divided precisely because you insist on thinking there should be one dominant race. When you realize humans are humans and that diversity adds, instead of subtracting, and accept the fact that this is precisely what being an American is really about, that being a WASP is just being a WASP, that being an American is something much higher than being Black, Indian, Latin or Caucausian.
Nothing personal, Capster, really, but I am very sorry to see that the so-called land of the free sometimes fails to see the richness of its ethnic and cultural diversity.
To unite, you have to accept what you are. A big melting pot. There is beauty in that. The union of different races and cultures is the most beautiful realization of a united country. A dream? Perhaps. A beatiful one, definitely worth dreaming.
Best regards!

Mixing people and cultures is what this country is based on- we get the best of the best that way. What we are lacking lately is a moral and ethical standpoint to rest our patriotism on I think. Like people insulting the president or the govn. (though I don't like all that is going on) rather than complaining or doing something about the THING they don't like. People should all speak a universal language in America(English)- and be happy and glad if they are lucky enough to speak another too. The whole reason they can be here whinning and complaining is because-THEY ARE IN AMERICA. We are NOT PERFECT by any means but better than many other places. We all have the gift of education, freedom of speech and a chance at personal and spiritual wealth and choice---we should be proud of that and of America. I wouldn't want to be anywhere else- would you? Respect for others and education will bring us a long way- and the liberal politicians staying away from the foundational laws that keep us safe and free. I don't care if your orange ,purple or green or come from mars- just respect where you live and others and we'd all do fine! And don't burn the flag my ancestors fought for or I'll kick your ***! My husband is a first generation American and he waited 7 years to get in, did 10 years as a marine and was the first to graduate college- my parents worked 3 jobs to finish college, I worked 2....people just need those ethics and the average joe would really just like to have a home, be happy and live! Don't you think? My biggest peeve is the multiple languages on the products and when i have to push a button to hear ENGLISH on a help line....

Okay, so the USA was built on immigrants, and as such, continues to be a country that relies on immigrants of all different cultures for its economy to be much better than most other countries in the world. I would recommend that you reflect on what an "American" really is, because to me, anyone that belongs to the Americas (North, South, Central America) is an American. I don't believe that we are becoming divided because of this mixing of cultures. I think we are divided because of many different factors which include the government and its current administration, the media and how it portrays these different cultures, racists, etc. The way we can concentrate on what is right and wrong is by opening up our eyes and realizing that every culture in this country is what makes it unique and that every culture contributes to our "America" in a different way, and as such, we should strive to understand each other. I understand that this could be a very utopian way of looking at things, but I truly believe this.

Capster, It's worked for over 200 years.
Our diversity is our strength. Just as the world would not work as well if everyone could fix automobiles but nobody knew how to cook food - or build roads - or run a steel mill - so too the United States shows that really, when it comes down to it - we are all the same with different talents/likes/dislikes/religions.
We all enter this world the same way - naked and screaming. What we become, how we speak, what we wear or eat or how we worship is all learned behavior. If we can learn all these complex concepts, don't you believe humans can also learn to respect the differences of others?

Well we are all from different countries as far as nationality and ancestory is concerned. We are a melting pot of different cultures and should respect each other. We are not divided because of the mixing cultures, we are divided because the "dominant" race is not "dominant" anymore and they want to get back on top by kicking out certain groups of people like mexicans, what about the European immigrants you don't see them complaining it's because the "dominant" race isn't hassaling them. We should be able to stand United yet we are not United.

When was America all just one culture? I have lived here all my life and have seen hundreds of different races, colors, religions...America has always been a "mixing pot" of differences. If u want to b honest Native Indians were here first, then the land was taken from them...and the rest is history...This country was built by Immigrants, African-Americans, Caucasians, Asians, Hispanics, the list goes on....

We are now more UNITED, because we can see every culture's presence in US.
With the other cultures coming to US we have a chance to mix with them and make our country a better place and a true world leader.

OK first off this country has always been mixed with different cultures. Unless you are native American Indian....your family came from other countries. I feel that is what makes us strong.

If we stem the huge, unregulated immigration, most of the new immigrants will assimilate. This has been the case historically. And if the US becomes a bit more Hispanic in culture, what's wrong with that?

The Law is still the Law. If all people can abide by it then there is no division. And I mean ACTUAL basic law not the prescribed PC law which should be left up to individuals and common sense.
