I'm embarrassed to go to other countries and say I'm an American because of all the hatred and anti-americanism going on. Any answers or solutions to make other countries respect us again like it used to?

Americans are disliked because The United States of America has accomplished more in 200 years than the rest of the world accomplished in 5,000.

They hate the fact that we are the most productive nation on earth, in spite of all the Democrats we Republicans have to support with our tax dollars... but again, that just shows how productive we are.

Countries that have been around for thousands of years are technologically left in the dust by the U.S.

It's a simple case of jealousy and envy, particularly in Europe... Europe used to be the technological and cultural center of the world...but no more... and they can't stand it.

When I meet Europeans that come here for six months out of the year, they can't believe all of the goods we have in a typical supermarket... a supermarket! They've never seen anything like it over there... and when they go into a Wal Mart, forget it! They're like little kids in a candy store.

Europeans don't like the fact that we don't pay nearly as much as they do for gasoline.

France's economy is down the tubes because Americans aren't buying their 'whine'.

France and Germany have unemployment rates that are at or near double digits, and they have no idea what to do about it. They can't figure out where they went wrong.

The French sat on their butts while they watched Muslims burn their country down. Yeah, Chirac had a clue.

I know how you feel! I love to travel, but I feel like everyone hates me because I'm American. I think a lot of it has to do with how our politicians are so condescending toward the other countries. Bush and other politicians do not give other countries' leaders the respect they deserve. America really should start taking more of an interest in how the rest of the world feels. We also need to stop pushing other countries around so much. That attitude is going to come back to haunt us in the future. Many Americans seem to think we have a secure position of ultimate world power and nobody can touch us, but we are a lot more vulnerable than we realize. Eventually some country that hates us is going to sneak some WMDs into our country and then we're going to be in big trouble.

While serving in the overseas I was witness to many acts of arrogance by both civilians and military personnel towards other cultures. Since that period of time was more than 39 years ago, I can only assume that the U.S. attitude hasn't improved.

Based only on my observation of how younger people (13 -25 years) in the U.S. disrespect so much (elderly, landmarks, environment, decent communication etc;) I can only assume that lack respect for the U.S. by other countries isn't going to change anytime in the near future.

On the flip side, obviously there are many intelligent, respectful and courteous people in our country, young and old. Maybe they're the invisible majority. Because they don't insult and have an arrogant way about them.

The solution, education about other cultures.

Unfortunately, most of our nations political leaders, CE Os, religious leaders, and tourists abroad are the ugly Americans: arrogant, spoiled, self-serving, exploitive, crude, condescending and boorish. It doesn't help that we have a military presence in so many countries and back dictators with bad human rights records for our economic or political ends. The best way I can think of to change the perception of Americans in other countries would be to have Americans get off their high horses and view other countries with an attitude of respect for their cultures, traditions, and histories. I often see "God Bless America" bumper stickers. I want one that says "May God forgive America"

Because we were the first to go to the Moon via invitation. Now Red China thinks it's up for grabs because we haven't gone back yet. No Matter how many other countries think they are superior, our technologies known and unknown will always be more advanced. If we really wanted to we could wipe all of the others off their own maps regardless of their numbers of soldiers. They believe we want to control their countries either by fear or our ideology. Resistance is futile. You can run but you cannot hide. Everything happens for a reason no matter how many lame victories they believe they have won. It only serves to fuel our resolve against their petty and mundane lives. Is Arrogance a good enough answer? Define "Respect". When we bring out the big guns, they will have little choice. (Team America)

It mostly has to do with the bullying policies of certain administrations, not necessarily this one...

it also has to do with a growing trend towards other nations gaining a spotlight on the international stage

and at the same time it has to do with a growing trend against something which is called by some as cultural imperialism, pushed forward by communists, saying that the US is trying to destroy all cultures with its own

in reality, most people enjoy the culture and people, it's the politics they dislike...

we are seen as basically the ones running the show, and they don't want us to, because we do it in mostly our interests (of course, why wouldn't we) and not their interests, but that mainly screws them over.

Anyway, I myself don't care who's in charge of the world as long as we get rid of the opressive communist ideologies for good.

High visibility makes for an easy target & Americans are certainly in the public eye.

Like it used to be when? Since the late 50's I can remember being mistreated by citizens of other countries for being American. They are either jealous or brainwashed with propaganda. The only way to not be treated badly over seas is to stay home. They have little to offer other than some neat castles and stuff anyway.

Most of the world is jealous of the US's prosperity and well-made products (except for our automobiles). We are the ONLY superpower in the world. When you're on top, everyone wants to take shots at you. The US isn't perfect by any means but we still have the BEST thing going. Go USA!!!

It's because of Presidents like the one we have now. If people would stop supporting war, and start promoting peace, maybe then we'd be respected.
